UO Hosts Sun Devils, Wildcats

EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon women's tennis team, ranked No. 61 in the latest ITA team rankings, continues its five-match homestand and returns to Pac-12 action this weekend, as the Ducks host No. 39 Arizona State on Friday before facing No. 41 Arizona on Sunday at the Student Tennis Center.

The Ducks snapped a two-match skid last Saturday with a 6-1 win over in-state rival Portland in their final nonconference contest of the season. UO won the doubles point with a tiebreak victory at third doubles before going on to win five of six singles matches. Overall, Oregon has won eight of its last 11 matches and seeks its first conference victory.
Uxia Martinez Moral is a team-best 10-3 this spring and has won her last four singles matches. Jo-Yee Chan also has racked up 10 singles wins, going 10-4, and has won three straight matches. Karin Young is 9-3 this spring season, with six wins coming at the fifth position. Freshman Candela Aparisi has won her last two matches.
On the double side, Oregon has clinched the doubles point in 10 of 14 matches this season and have used 10 different doubles combinations. Freshman Candela Aparisi and Young own a team-best seven doubles victories, including a point-deciding victory against the Pilots on Saturday. Chan has seven total doubles victories across four different pairings, and has won three of the last four matches with partner Sophie Luescher.
Arizona State enters Friday's contest boasting an ITA ranking of No. 39. All eight of the Sun Devils' losses have come against teams ranked in the nation's top 32, dropping five of their last six matches. ASU's lineup features two ranked singles players in Giulia Morlet (No. 79) and Emilija Tverijonaite (No. 82).
Additionally, ASU possesses two ranked doubles teams, headlined by 34th-ranked Patricia Spaka and Chelsea Fontenel. Spaka is also part of the Sun Devils' second ranked tandem, partnered with Marianna Argyrokastriti and checking in at No. 77 in the latest ITA rankings.
The Wildcats, ranked 41st, have lost four straight matches to begin Pac-12 play after falling to both USC and UCLA last weekend. Arizona is led by Reese Carter, who came in at No. 98 in this week's ITA singles rankings.
The Ducks are 3-24 all-time against Arizona State and 14-16 against Arizona. UO defeated Arizona last season in Tucson 4-1, and last defeated ASU in 2022, earning a 4-3 home victory in 2022.
