EUGENE, Ore. – Facing its third consecutive ranked test to begin Pac-12 play, the No. 61 Oregon women's tennis team fell to No. 39 Arizona State 4-0 Friday afternoon at the Student Tennis Center.
The Ducks (9-6, 0-3) failed to claim the doubles point for just the fifth time this season, as ASU clinched the day's first point with wins at Nos. 1 and 3. UO's top duo of Tilde Jagare and Uxia Martinez Moral battled the nation's 39th-ranked pair in Patricija Spaka and Chelsea Fontenel, 6-1, while Karin Young and Candela Aparisi fell 6-3 to Rachel Hanford and Emilija Tverjonaite.
The Sun Devils (9-8, 1-4) claimed straight-set victories at the top three singles positions to give the Ducks their third loss in their last eight matches. Sara Svetac got by Jo-Yee Chan on court three 6-0, 6-4 to snap Chan's three-match winning streak.
Tverijonaite, ranked No. 82, defeated Nina Geissler at second singles 6-1, 6-0. And Fontenel's 6-1, 6-2 win over Sophie Luescher on court one sealed the Sun Devils' sweep.
Five of Oregon's six losses this season have come against teams currently ranked in the ITA's top-75 poll.
The Ducks finish the weekend on Sunday against No. 41 Arizona at 11 a.m. at the Student Tennis Center. Following the match, coaches and players will put on a free youth clinic for all kids eighth grade and under.
