Ducks secure three singles wins, two doubles victories on Friday.
EUGENE, Ore. - Three players from the Oregon women's tennis team took the court on the opening day of the fall season's second Duck Invitational, winning three singles and two doubles matches at the Student Tennis Center on Friday.
In singles, all three Ducks won in straight sets against opponents from Portland State. Patsy Daughters pocketed a swift 6-1, 6-2 win, while Montserrat Baruqui navigated a close first-set tiebreaker before finishing strong with a 7-6 (8-6), 6-2 win.
Hadley Appling followed behind, pulling off a come-from-behind win in the second set to end with a 7-6 (7-4), 7-5 victory. Both Baruqui and Daughters remain undefeated in singles play at home this fall.
Appling, paired with Portland State's Anjola Ige, kicked off the first round of doubles with a perfect 6-0 win against a pair from Seattle. Daughters and Baruqui also faced a Redhawk duo, but came up short in a 6-4 loss. Daughters and Appling teamed up in the second round of doubles, collecting a decisive 6-1 win against an Idaho pair.
Oregon will continue playing tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. at the Student Tennis Center with one round of doubles and one round of singles. All Oregon tennis matches are free and open to the public.
