Ducks Finish 2023 Season

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon played valiantly through challenging conditions in the final Pac-12 meeting against rival Oregon State, but fell 2-0 on a rainy Friday night at Paul Lorenz Field.
How It Happened: The Beavers (4-7-8, 1-7-4) scored the first goal of the match on a counterattack in the 11th minute.
OSU fired off 17 shots in the first half, but time and time again, Oregon's defense rose to the occasion. The Ducks had seven blocked shots and only two of the Beavers' first half attempts were on target.
The Ducks (0-16-3, 0-10-1) had a team save in the 17th minute when Anna Emperador cleared a shot off the goal line.
Oregon was able to generate some scoring opportunities in the second half as Ajanae Respass, Ryann Reynolds and Cameron Bourne all had shots on goal.
Grace Mensah had a breakaway chance for the Ducks in the 83rd minute, but OSU goalie Hailey Coll came out of the net and threw her body at the ball to prevent Oregon's scoring opportunity.
The Beavers' added a second goal in the 59th minute.
Notable: Oregon came into Friday's game having played the second-most difficult schedule in the country. … One of the youngest teams nationally, the Ducks started five or more freshmen in 14 of 19 games in 2023. … Three freshmen – Cameron Bourne, Kristen Conte and Mia McSweeney – started all 19 games. … Maddy Goldberg made two saves and passed Katelyn Carter (97, 2016-19) for ninth on the UO career saves list. The sophomore finished the year with 99 career saves. … Defender Anna Phillips made her 55th consecutive start.
