A&T falls in meet at Azusa Pacific

AZUSA, Calif. — Oregon scored a perfect 10 in the synchronized pyramid event but a big team event score led No. 4 Azusa Pacific to a 280.370 – 276.980 win over the second-ranked Ducks on Thursday night.
The Ducks (2-1) held a 2.65-point lead heading into the team event, but the Cougars (1-0) scored 100.22 out of a possible 107.37 to pull out the come-from-behind victory. Oregon countered with 94.18 points of a possible 106.07 in the team event.
How It Happened: Oregon built an early lead in the meet outscoring APU 38.80 to 37.60 in the compulsory event. The Ducks put up scores of 9.85 in both the pyramid heat and the toss heat to open the meet.
Azusa Pacific countered by edging Oregon in the acro event 29.70 to 29.60. The Cougars won both the 5-element and the 6-element by .10, while the Ducks claimed the 7-element 9.95 to 9.85.
In the pyramid event, Oregon outscored Asuza Pacific by 2.25 points thanks to the perfect 10 in the synchronized heat and a 9.85 in the open heat. The win in pyramid gave Oregon a 98.15 to 94.80 lead at the half.
The Ducks extended the lead slightly coming out of the half edging APU 29.40 to 29.35 in the toss event. The Cougars built an early lead in the event winning both the 450 salto and the synchronized, but the Ducks finished the event with a 9.90 to 9.65 edge in the open toss.
APU narrowed the Ducks lead in the tumbling event outscoring Oregon 56.000 to 55.250. A 7.050 in the duo pass was too much for the Ducks to overcome even though UO outscored APU 48.20 to 46.45 in the remaining five tumbling passes.
Up Next: Oregon and Baylor will meet in Waco, Texas, on Saturday, April 10, in a rematch of Oregon's 281.635-280.660 home win over the Bears on March 6.
