Ducks Fall in Pac-12 Opener

EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon women's tennis team lost to No. 19 Arizona State at home, 4-0, on Friday afternoon.
Arizona State came into the match with three ranked singles players and a ranked doubles duo who all had strong performances to lead the Sun Devils to victory.
How It Happened: During the doubles point, Arizona State (11-5) took the early advantage with a 6-2 win on court two. Shortly after, the Sun Devils secured the doubles point with a 6-3 win on court one.
At No. 1 doubles, the Oregon duo of Lillian Mould and Julia Eshet faced the No. 46 ranked doubles pair of Tereza Kolarova and Ilze Hattingh (ASU). The Sun Devils won the doubles match, 6-3, shortly after the Arizona State duo of Savannah Slaysman and Sammi Hampton took down Oregon's duo of Uxia Martinez Moral and Myah Petchey, 6-2.
The Ducks entered singles play down by one point. Arizona State's Sammi Hampton came into the match ranked No. 94. Hampton put up the second point for the Sun Devils, defeating Uxia Martinez Moral in straight sets. The next Arizona State point came from No. 120 ranked Savannah Slaysman (ASU). Slaysman defeated Oregon's Madisen Olsen 6-1, 6-1.
Oregon's Taryn Fujimori made her spring season singles debut, but Arizona State's Lauryn John-Baptiste came out on top and secured the match victory for the Sun Devils.
Ilze Hattingh (ASU) came into the match ranked No. 40 in singles. Freshman Lillian Mould challenged Hattingh, and led in set one, 4-2, but Hattingh found momentum and won the first set, 6-4. Mould and Hattingh's match was unfinished.
