EUGENE, Ore. – Daniela Nasser ended her career at Oregon on a high note as the Ducks defeated Portland, 4-1, at the Student Tennis Center outdoor courts on Wednesday evening.
"It was just a lot of fun," said Nasser. "My teammates mean the world to mean, so one more night battling out with them was just really special."
How It Happened: The Ducks (7-15) got off to a hot start on their home courts against Portland (8-11).
In doubles, Rifanty Kahfiani and Paiton Wagner downed their opponents, 6-1, at the top spot, giving Oregon the early advantage.
But after jumping ahead, the other two courts proved more difficult. Eventually, Taryn Fujimori and Julia Eshet grinded out a 7-6(4) win on court three to clinch the doubles point for the Ducks. Fujimori and Eshet's win marks Oregon's second win of the season at No. 3 doubles and Fujimori's first collegiate win.
The Ducks continued to build on their hard-earned 1-0 lead behind some strong singles performances.
Kahfiani was the first to strike, dominating at the No. 2 spot with a clean 6-0, 6-0 victory over Raphaelle Leblanc.
Shortly after, Allison Mulville made her way off the court. Mulville downed her opponent in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, to give the Ducks a 3-0 lead over the Pilots.
The Pilots spoiled the Ducks chances at a sweep with a win of their own on court six. However, Wagner ensured Oregon would come out on top, claiming a 6-2, 6-3 win on court two to clinch the senior-night victory.
Quotable:
Courtney Nagle, Head Coach
"It's always great to have a good last match at home. It was great for us to get that outside in a great environment with a lot of fans. The doubles point was exciting. In singles, there were three players in position the clinch and it just happened that Paiton did it. But to get a win in your last home match as a senior is pretty good."
Daniela Nasser, Senior
"My four years here have been awesome. I wouldn't change anything. I'm going to miss it a lot here. I'm kind of speechless because I don't think it's going to hit me until a little bit later. But I've loved every second I've spent here. This schools amazing, the coaching staff is amazing, the support staff is amazing, so I've just been really lucky to be able to play here for four years."
