Ducks Fall in First Round of Pac-12s

Kahfiani and Wagner picked up a win against the No. 1 doubles pair in the nation, but the Oregon women’s tennis team suffered a 4-0 loss to ASU in the first round of the Pac-12 Tournament on Wednesday.
OJAI, Calif. – Rifanty Kahfiani and Paiton Wagner picked up a win against the No. 1 doubles pair in the nation, but it wasn't enough as the Oregon women's tennis team suffered a 4-0 loss to sixth-seeded Arizona State in the first round of the Pac-12 Tournament on Wednesday at the Weil Tennis Academy.
How It Happened: The Ducks (7-16) battled closely with the Sun Devils (13-9) for the first point of the afternoon.
Rifanty Kahfiani and Paiton Wagner were the first off the court. In only their fourth time playing with each other this season, the pair made a statement, downing the No. 1 doubles team in the country, Lauryn-Baptiste and Ilze Hattingh, 6-1.
However Arizona State was quick to even the score, claiming a 6-1 victory of its own on court three.
With the doubles score knotted at one apiece, the attention turned to court two. It was about as close as it could get, but ASU narrowly edged out Daniela Nasser and Allison Mulville, 7-6(3), to give the Sun Devils a 1-0 advantage heading into singles play.
In singles, Arizona State carried its momentum from doubles over. The Sun Devils rattled off three straight-set wins on courts four through six to clinch the match and advance to the quarterfinals.
