
Comeback Bid Falls Short At No. 10 Towson

TOWSON, Md. – The comeback attempt was on for the Oregon women's lacrosse team, as UO pulled within one goal of No. 10 Towson midway through the second half, but the Ducks could not get over the hill falling to the Tigers 15-10 Monday afternoon.
How it Happened: Down 9-3 following a goal from Towson's Gabby Cha to open the second half, the Ducks (4-5, 2-3) had a big hill to climb in the final 23 minutes.
Shannon Williams got the Ducks going, scoring her second goal of the game to spark a 5-0 run for UO.
Five different Ducks found the back of the net during Oregon's run, with seniors Jill Zubillaga and JoJo Hesketh scoring their second goals of the game while Mariah Gatti and Natalie Modly netted their first.
Modly's free position goal brought Oregon within one, 9-8, with over 15 minutes left in the game.
Towson answered with back-to-back goals to keep UO at bay 11-8.
After Gatti recorded her second goal of the game, the Tigers closed out the final seven minutes outscoring the Ducks 4-1 to earn the final score of 15-10.
The Ducks played from behind the entire game as Towson jumped out to a 3-0 lead to open the first half. The Tigers' Emily Gillingham scored two of her four goals during the opening run.
Zubillaga eventually got UO on the board netting her first of three goals at the 22:45 mark to make it 3-1. After both teams traded a goal, the Tigers closed out the first half on a similar 4-1 run to lead Oregon 8-3 at halftime.
Who Stood Out: Zubillaga recorded her fifth hat trick of the year … Cambi Cukar earned her second straight game with four assists, and fourth of the season … Lexy Biller finished the game leading all players with nine draw controls … Williams finished with four points, recording two goals and two assists.
Notable: The Ducks shined in the circle recording 18 draw controls to Towson's nine … UO recorded a season-high 20 turnovers against Towson, including 11 in the first half … The Ducks went 1-of-7 on free position shots.
