Three Ducks Record Hat Tricks As UO Defeats Vanderbilt 17-12
03/28/18 | Women's Lacrosse
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Oregon women's lacrosse team snapped its three-game losing skid with a dominant wire-to-wire performance to take down Vanderbilt 17-12 Wednesday afternoon.
How it Happened: After Vanderbilt opened the game's scoring, it looked as if the Ducks (5-5, 2-3) would be in for another long game after going down early the past three games.
But the Ducks learned from their mistakes and proceeded to trade goals with the Commodores tying the game 5-5 following Jill Zubillaga's goal at the 5:45 mark.
That goal sparked a 6-0 run for the Ducks spanning the end of the first half and the beginning of the second.
Zubillaga netted three goals during UO's run, eventually capped off by a goal from Mariah Gatti to give UO a 10-5 lead with 25 minutes left in the game.
The Commodores got as close as three goals, 12-9, following a 3-0 run midway through the second half, but that would be as close as Vanderbilt would get. UO kept the Commodores at arms' length scoring five goals more goals before the final whistle.
Who Stood Out: Zubillaga led all scorers with a career-high five goals … Including Zubillaga, three Ducks finished with at least three goals, four for Lexy Biller and three for Gatti … In addition to recording her first career hat trick for UO, Biller also recorded nine draw controls … Brittany Read finished with 10 saves, marking the third game in a row with double-digit saves.
Up Next: Oregon closes out its three-game road trip at East Carolina Sunday at 9 a.m. PT.
