EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon acrobatics and tumbling team shined in their home opener, defeating Hawai'i Pacific, 280.100-267.595, Friday night in front of 796 fans at Matthew Knight Arena.
The Ducks only lost two heats to the Sharks, improving on their scores from Monday's meet at Concordia University Wisconsin in nearly every heat.
How it Happened: After dropping the opening heat of Friday's match, 9.40-9.25, the Ducks (2-0) got back on track recording back-to-back scores of 9.95 in the pyramid and toss heats to win the compulsory event 38.45-38.30.
UO raised the bar in the acro event scoring a 29.55, leaving only 0.45 points on the floor, to tie the third-highest score in program history. Seniors Alexis Cross and Taylor Galvin accompanied by freshman Calyx Hampton capped off the event with a tremendous 9.95 in the seven element heat.
In the pyramid, the Ducks opened the event with back-to-back scores of 9.80 in the inversion and synchronized heats. With a 9.90 in the open pyramid heat, the Ducks once again left less than one point on the mat scoring a 29.50 to give UO a 97.50-95.25 lead at the half.
Oregon continued to distance themselves from HPU out of the break outscoring the Sharks 29.10-27.50 in the toss event.
UO saw their biggest score improvement in the tumbling event, more specifically the triple and quad passes. After scoring a 7.90 and 6.50, respectively, at CUW, the Ducks went back to the drawing board and came out flying against HPU recording scores of 9.30 and 8.95 in the second and third heats.
Oregon closed out the meet with a 97.20-90.77 win in the team event.

On her thoughts about tonight's meet…
"We definitely started out rough in the compulsory event, but we talked about it, leaving that in compulsories, and turning it around going into the next parts of the meet. I think the girls had a ton of energy tonight. We really executed the things that we wanted to execute, and we worked on a lot of changes from our meet on Monday going into this meet. I think the girls absolutely crushed everything they did tonight, so it was really exciting, really high energy from the fans and the team."
Up Next: The Ducks will travel to Waco for arguably their biggest test of the season in an NCATA Championship rematch against Baylor Saturday, Feb. 24, at 5 p.m. PT.
