MEQUON, Wisc. – The Oregon acrobatics and tumbling team opened their 2018 season with a massive 267.890-225.305 victory over Concordia University Wisconsin Monday afternoon.
Oregon's 42.585 score differential over CUW is the second-largest margin of victory in program history.
How it Happened: The Ducks were dominant throughout the meet, not losing a single heat on their way to the victory.
In the Compulsory event, UO jumped out to a six point lead, 38.50-32.10, after earning scores of 9.80 and 9.90 in the pyramid and toss heats, respectively.
The Ducks opened the Acro event with a trio of freshman in the 5-Element heat. Accompanied by junior Megan Barney, freshmen Yeelena Faustino, Mikaela Moore and Addie Lacewell scored a 9.90. Oregon would go on to record a 29.50-22.45 victory in the event.
The Falcons gave Oregon their biggest scare in the Pyramid, opening the event with back-to-back scores of 9.35, their highest scores of the meet, in the first two heats. The Ducks countered with scores of 9.80, 9.55 and 9.75 throughout the three heats to win the event, 29.10-27.95.
UO headed into the break with a 14 point lead over CUW, 97.10-82.50.
After winning the Toss event 28.45-23.35, the Ducks headed into arguably one of their best events from last season, Tumbling.
After a shaky start in the first three heats that saw UO narrowly edge out the Falcons in the quad tumbling heat, 6.50-6.25, the Ducks turned up the pressure in the final three heats. UO posted a 9.35 or better in the last three heats, with three-time Tumbling event national champion Taylor Galvin recording a 9.675 in the open tumbling heat.
The Ducks closed out their season opener with a big win in the team event, outscoring CUW 90.89-74.58 to clinch the victory.

On Oregon's first meet of the season…
"We had an extremely strong first half which was our goal. We had a few mistakes in the second half and we will address those at practice this week and make appropriate adjustments before our meet this Friday."
On the three freshmen who performed in the Acro event…
"They showed up and executed their skills near perfection. The first meet for any freshmen will always be intimidating and we are looking forward to seeing them continue to progress throughout the season."
Up Next: The Ducks return to Eugene for their home season opener, taking on coach Won's former school Hawai'I Pacific Friday, Feb. 9, at 7 p.m. PT.
