Ducks Fall to No. 2 UNC on the Road

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Oregon women's tennis team fell 4-0 to the No. 2 UNC Tar Heels Saturday afternoon at the Cone-Kenfield Center in the opening match of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend.
The Ducks, now 2-2, will play in the consolation round against Columbia starting at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday morning. The championship match between UNC and the Texas Longhorns is set for 1:00 p.m. The consolation match live stats can be found here - bit.ly/1GxmWwv
In today's match-ups, three Ducks faced opponents that are ranked within the top 10 nationally. In doubles, the only ranked duo for UNC, No. 46 Aney/Graham, was defeated by Tobita and Kahfiani - their first duos match of the season as partners.

How it Happened: In doubles, senior Marlou Kluiving and freshman Julia Eshet were defeated by Chloe Ouellet-Pizer and Rachel James-Baker, 6-2 on court three. On court two, junior Alyssa Tobita and freshman Rifanty Kahfiani took down Jessie Aney and Alexa Graham in a hard-fought battle, 6-3.
The deciding factor of the doubles point came down to court one, where Tar Heels pair Hayley Carter and Sara Daavettile would answer with a 6-3 victory over sophomore Shweta Sangwan and junior Nia Rose.
In singles, the Tar Heels claimed the first set on all six courts, but the Ducks wouldn't go down without a gritty effort.
Ranked No. 3, Daavettila of UNC defeated Rose 6-0, 6-1 for the first singles victory for the Tar Heels of the afternoon. On court four, Graham, ranked No. 44, took down Eshet, 6-2, 6-2. No. 9 Aney solidified the UNC victory with a 7-6(4), 6-4 victory over Tobita. Sangwan, Kahfiani and Kluiving's matches went unfinished.
