LOGAN, Utah – Marlou Kluiving clinched the match for Oregon with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Lexi Turly for her 11th-straight win as the Ducks notched a 5-2 victory over Utah State on Friday at the USU Outdoor Courts. The win for Oregon was its sixth victory in seven games and also kept its road record unblemished at 3-0.
How It Happened: Kluiving not only clinched the match for Oregon (7-3, 1-0 Pac-12), but also clinched the doubles point for the Ducks with partner Nicole Long. With the doubles matches tied at 1-1, Kluiving and Long were able to grind out a 6-4 win over Utah State's (10-5) McKenzie Davis and Maggie O'Meara.
Nia Rose and Alyssa Tobita collected their fifth-straight win in doubles action with a dominating 6-0 win over Kallie Sperry and Turly at the No. 1 slot.
In singles action, Long was the first to wrap up her match and gave Oregon a 2-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-2 dismantling of Sabrina Demerath for her seventh-straight win. Lina Åkesson snapped her two-match losing streak when she put UO up 3-0 with a win over O'Meara (6-2, 6-1) in the No. 5 slot.
Meghan Lyall gave the Aggies their first point with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Paloma Gomez at the No. 6 position. Kluiving would clinch the match for Oregon and made it 4-1 shortly after Gomez went down.
Utah State picked up its second point at the No. 1 singles slot when Davis battled back to defeat Rose in a tiebreaker 4-6, 6-2, 10-0. Tobita got back on the saddle and moved into the win column when the freshman bested Nini Guensler (6-3, 6-4) at the No. 2 position.
Odds & Ends: The Ducks have yet to lose a match when playing outdoors (7-0) … The last time Oregon defeated a ranked opponent was against No. 60 Colorado at home on March 9, 2014 … UO is now 1-2 against ranked opponents ... Kluiving keeps her dual match record unblemished, moving to 10-0.
Up Next: Oregon returns to action at 11 a.m. (PT) on Saturday, March 14, to complete its two-game road swing in Utah against BYU.
