02/28/09 | Women's Tennis
EUGENE, Ore. - The No. 45 Oregon women's tennis team grabbed the doubles point against No. 19 Arizona State, but the Sun Devils took five of six singles matches and the Ducks fell 5-2 on Saturday afternoon at the Student Tennis Center.
Oregon's loss drops its overall record to 7-4 (1-1 Pac-10) while Arizona State improves to 6-1 (1-0 Pac-10) with the come-from-behind victory.
Oregon had the early lead after Pavlina Smatova and Ana Cecilia Olivos combined to win at No. 1 doubles and Carmen Seremeta and Trudie du Toit were victorious at No. 3 doubles.
But Arizona State came out strong, winning the first five singles matches before Siobhan Cavan won at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 7-5, to end the day.
The Ducks next seven matches are on the road, starting next weekend with Washington State in Pullman, Wash., and UW in Seattle.

The Ducks knocked off Arizona yesterday at the STC, 4-3, and will look to remain unbeaten in conference play against the Sun Devils. ASU comes in with some impressive wins this season over No. 24 Florida State and No. 27 Texas and is the second-highest ranked foe Oregon has played thus far in 2009. Arizona State also features the No. 3 ranked singles player in the country, Kelcy McKenna, a native of North Bend, Ore., (with a large family cheering section here today) adding even more intrigue to the match between Oregon head coach Paul Reber and his alma mater.
