Krissy Carman
- Title:
- Assistant Coach
Oregon women's golf head coach Derek Radley officially announced the hiring of Krissy Carman as the Ducks' new assistant coach on July 3, 2023.
A native of Canby, Ore., who now lives in Eugene, Carman played two seasons at Oregon State before transferring to Portland State for her final two years of college eligibility. After taking three years off from competitive golf following the birth of her son, Carman returned to the game and won the 2022 USGA Mid-Amateur Championship. She will compete at the 2023 U.S. Women's Open this weekend at historic Pebble Beach Golf Links.
"We are thrilled to welcome Krissy to our Oregon family as our new assistant coach," Radley said. "We searched the nation for the very best fit for our program, and we found it right in our own backyard. Krissy is a winner with an incredible work ethic and ability to relate to others. Our student-athletes are going to absolutely love working with her and I am so excited to have her by my side."
"I am beyond excited to coach the Ducks," Carman said. "Derek has built such a special program here and I look forward to having him as a mentor. This group of ladies is extremely talented and I look forward to supporting them throughout their journey here at UO and beyond."
Carman's path to winning the USGA Mid-Amateur Championship began when she and her husband, Mitchell, brought their two-year old son, Conrad, to Pine Ridge Golf Club in Springfield in a jogging stroller. Carman then returned to competition, winning both the 2022 Oregon Stroke Play Championship and the Oregon Amateur Championship and finishing runner-up at the Oregon Mid-Amateur Championship.
After shooting a 1-under 143 in stroke play at the USGA Mid-Amateur Championship, Carman claimed four match-play wins in dominant fashion to reach the semifinals. The No. 5 seed in the field, Carman pulled out a 3 and 2 win over No. 1 seed Jennifer Peng in the semifinals before claiming the title with a 2 and 1 win over Aliea Clark.
Carman, who played collegiately as Krissy Peterson, was an all-Big Sky first-team selection for Portland State in 2015-16 before earning honorable mention as a senior in 2016-17. She also earned all-Big Sky Tournament honors in each of her two years with the Vikings, and in 2016 became the first PSU player to win the Oregon Women's Amateur Championship. Carman spent 2013-14 and 2014-15 at Oregon State before joining the Vikings.
