Season Ends With Seventh-Place Regional Finish
05/13/26 | Women's Golf
WACO, Texas – The Oregon women's golf team saw its 2025-26 season come to an end on Wednesday with a seventh-place showing at the NCAA Waco Regional, falling short of the required top-five finish to advance to the NCAA Championships.Â
The No. 8 Ducks entered the final round at Ridgewood Country Club in fourth place, but fell to seventh at 9 over after a 6-over 286 in the final round. No. 21 SMU (-17), No. 4 Texas A&M (-11), Baylor (E), LSU (+1) and No. 16 Tennessee (+7) earned the five qualifying bids, with Tennessee edging out Tulsa in a playoff for the final spot after finishing two strokes ahead of the Ducks.Â
Junior Kiara Romero shot a 1-under 69 in the final round and earned her seventh top-three finish of the season in a tie for third overall at 5-under par, but fell one stroke shy of earning the individual qualifying spot behind TCU's Kirstin Angosta (-6).Â
How it Happened: Oregon was battling with Tennessee and Tulsa for the fifth and final qualifying spot all morning, after host Baylor moved up from fifth to third with a 6-under 274 in the final round. The Ducks were inside the cut line for much of the round but were unable to keep pace with late-round surges from Tennessee and Tulsa, which shot 1-under and 1-over par on the afternoon, respectively.Â
Oregon and Tulsa were tied for fifth at 8-over par with just a few holes to play, but three birdies on the final two holes by the Golden Hurricane and a late bogey by the Ducks put UO in a two-stroke deficit.
Romero put together another strong showing with her third par-or-better round of the tournament, and freshman Sophie Han posted an even-par 70. The rest of the lineup struggled to get birdies to fall, however, with the final three players combining to shoot 12-over par on the day.Â
Romero finished her junior year with 21 par-or-better performances in 24 rounds, giving her 71 such showings in 84 career rounds. She has shot in the 60s 13 times this season and 37 times in her career, and she posted her seventh top-10 finish of the year and 22nd of her career.Â
Han's even-par performance was her 13th this season of par-or-better as she wrapped up a solid freshman year in a tie for 15th overall at 1 over.Â
Karen Tsuru made 16 pars but had a bogey and a double bogey for a 3-over 73, and Tong An rounded out Oregon's counting scores with a 4-over 74.Â
