Cherubet, Echohawk Win Big Ten Awards

The Ducks next host the Bill Dellinger Invitational (Oct. 9) at Pine Ridge Golf Club.
EUGENE, Ore. – Juliet Cherubet and Tayson Echohawk have been named Big Ten Athletes of the Week as announced Wednesday afternoon by the conference office. Both made their season debut Saturday.

Cherubet opened her season with a course and meet record at the Mike Johnson Classic in Monmouth, Ore. Her winning time of 18:36.7 was nearly a full minute faster than the previous Ash Creek Preserve course record of 19:32 set by Stanford's Fiona O'Keeffe at the 2019 Pac-12 Championships.

The Oregon women swept the top-four spots on their way to securing the Mike Johnson team title.

Echohawk finished eighth overall in 23:49.8 at the Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater, Okla., and was the Ducks' top finisher at the meet for a second-consecutive year. With Saturday's performance, he saw an eight-spot improvement from last year's individual finish. He was joined in the top 20 by Juan Gonzalez who finished 16th overall.

The Men of Oregon held steady at No. 5 in Tuesday's release of the USTFCCCA coaches poll and the UO women checked in at No. 6, down just one spot from their season-opening ranking. The Ducks are back in action Friday, Oct. 9, for the Dellinger Invitational at the Pine Ridge Golf Club in Springfield.
