No. 24 Oregon had five players with at least five kills in Saturday’s win.

TEMPE, Ariz. — The No. 24 Oregon volleyball team responded from its first loss with a straight-set win over UC Davis Saturday afternoon at the Snyder-Park Classic in Tempe, Ariz. The Ducks hit .362 against Davis with all five primary attackers posting at least five kills led by Valentina Vaulet with 10. Oregon is now 6-1 this season.

Fifth-year setter Marina Crownover directed the offense with 32 assists coupled with eight digs, three blocks and four kills of her own. Dalia Virlan hit .600 against the Aggies with nine kills, four blocks and two service aces. Sjakkie Donkers and Iva Sucurovic each put away seven kills while Sucurovic added a match-high five blocks.

Vaulet and sophomore libero Reese Sheppard also had two aces in the sweep.

The Ducks' .362 efficiency is the team's second highest of the season, trailing only the .412 percentage against Southeast Missouri (Aug. 29) in the second match of the year.

How It Happened: Holding on to a one-point lead in the first, Oregon used a four-point surge to take a 21-16 advantage after consecutive UCD attack errors. Crownover went over on two to give the Ducks a handful of set points and on the second opportunity, Sucurovic found the floor to secure the first set at 25-19.

UC Davis (3-5) took an early 8-5 lead in the second set but the Ducks answered with a five-point run to take control of play. Oregon led 15-10 at the media timeout and grew its lead to as much as nine at 22-13 after a kill from Donkers. On the team's second set point, Crownover connected with Virlan for a kill (25-18) and the 2-0 match lead.

Set three was the most back and forth, featuring 14 ties and five lead changes. At 20-all, Oregon went ahead by two a kill from Vaulet followed by a block from Virlan and Marlee Arrington. The Ducks had a pair of match points at 24-22 but Davis' Brooke Hibino extended play with back-to-back kills. On their fourth match point, the Ducks watched a Hibino backrow attack land long to secure the set, 27-25, and clinch the straight-set win.

Arrington, in her first start of the season, had five kills, three blocks and three digs.

Notable: Team hit .300 or higher for the fourth time this season … 10 attack errors is a season low for Oregon … second time with double-digit blocks (10.0) this season … Alanah Clemente (illness) did not play … program improves to 3-0-2 all-time against UC Davis.
