Ducks Extend Top-Five Streak With Third-Place Finish
03/10/26 | Women's Golf
ROLLING HILLS ESTATES, Calif. – The Oregon women's golf team extended its streak of consecutive top-five finishes to 19 on Tuesday, moving up one spot to place third at the Game Above Sports Invitational at Rolling Hills Country Club.
The No. 3 Ducks fired a 1-over 285 in the final round, finishing two strokes ahead of No. 22 Arizona, Eastern Michigan and SMU for third place at 11-over par. No. 2 USC (-22) won the team title with No. 4 Texas A&M (-10) in second.
UO has placed in the top five in every tournament since the start of the 2024-25 season. Since head coach Derek Radley took over in 2018-19, the Ducks have posted 61 top-five finishes in 78 tournaments.
Oregon was led for the second straight round by junior Kiara Romero, the top-ranked amateur golfer in the world. After missing the opening round due to illness, Romero returned to shoot even par in the second round on Monday before finishing with a 2-under 70 on Tuesday.
Freshmen Sophie Han and Shyla Singh each carded even-par 72s in the final round to help keep the Ducks' score at 1 over. Han was the top Duck on the leaderboard in a tie for 17th at 3-over par, and junior Darae Chung placed 20th overall at 5 over.
"I'm proud of the fight we showed this week," Radley said. "Our team really battled through some adversity and I thought all five our players had some really good moments out there. This was another good field and another opportunity to play against the caliber of opponents we'll see in the postseason. I'm excited about where this group is at right now and am looking forward to seeing how we can continue to improve."
How it Happened: Romero put together a nearly flawless round, making nine pars on the front nine before carding three birdies over her next seven holes to get to 3 under. Her lone bogey came on the 18th to close with a 2-under 70, her 65th par-or-better performance in 81 career rounds as a Duck.
Romero was 2 under across her two rounds but does not qualify on the individual leaderboard due to missing the opening round. Only five players in the field shot under par for the week.
Han and Singh both fought through some tough holes to get through the final round with even-par 72s. Han made five bogeys, including on her first and last holes of the day, but led the team with five birdies. She was 2 under on the back nine with four birdies in a span of six holes.
Singh was bogey free on the back nine with two birdies, after shooting 2 over on the front nine. She made a double bogey at No. 7 to move to 3 over, but responded with a birdie at No. 8 en route to going 3 under the rest of the way.
Sophomore Tong An rounded out the counting scores with a 3-over 75. Chung closed with a 4-over 76 but earned her second top-20 finish of the season on the strength of her 3-under 69 in the opening round.
