02/03/26 | Women's Golf
PALOS VERDES ESTATES, Calif. – The Oregon women's golf team put together its best round of the week on Tuesday at the Therese Hession Regional Challenge and earned a top-five finish in its first tournament of the spring at Palos Verdes Golf Club.
Behind a 2-under 69 from sophomore Tong An, the No. 3 Ducks fired a 1-under 283 in the final round to finish in fifth place in the 16-team field at 13-over par. Oregon has now placed in the top five in all five tournaments in 2025-26 and has done so 59 times in 76 tournaments under head coach Derek Radley.
No. 23 UCLA won the team title at 8-under par followed by No. 11 Texas (+3), No. 7 Texas A&M (+9) and No. 6 Florida (+12). Oregon finished four strokes ahead of No. 2 USC and No. 18 South Carolina to secure fifth place.
"It was great to be back out there competing in a tournament setting," Radley said. "This was a really good field and it's always good to come away with a top-five finish. This was a great opportunity to get back into competition form and we're excited to get back home and attack some of the areas we need to work on ahead of our next event."
How it Happened: The Ducks improved in each round throughout their first spring tournament, knocking off five shots from Monday's second round after shaving six strokes from their opening-round performance. Oregon shot par-or-better for the first time this spring and seventh time in 2025-26.
The final round began with a shotgun start, with all five Ducks opening between holes 5-8. An started on No. 7 and got off to a terrific start, making three birdies in her first 15 holes to get to 3 under. She had her lone blemish of the day with a bogey at No. 4, but she finished her round with two more pars to shoot in the 60s for the fourth time this season and seventh time in her career.
An and Romero finished tied as the top Ducks on the leaderboard, in a tie for 15th at 3-over par. Romero closed the week with a 1-over 72, bouncing back from a 3-over start through four holes to shoot 2 under the rest of the way.
Romero earned her 25th top-20 finish in 26 career tournaments, and she raised her career birdie total to 308 to pass Briana Chacon (306, 2020-23) for No. 7 on the Oregon all-time list.
Freshman Sophie Han and junior Darae Chung each carded even-par 71s to complete Oregon's counting scores. Each Duck made four birdies on the round while bouncing back from a couple tough holes to stay at even par.
Han tied for 19th overall at 4-over par to give Oregon four players in the individual top 20.
