PALOS VERDES ESTATES, Calif. – The Oregon women's golf team remains in seventh place at the Therese Hession Regional Challenge after improving by six strokes in the second round on Monday at Palos Verdes Golf Club.
The No. 3 Ducks shot a 4-over 288 to move to 14 over for the tournament. No. 23 UCLA leads the field at 2-under par and is followed by No. 6 Florida (+6), No. 11 Texas (+8), No. 7 Texas A&M (+9), No. 9 Pepperdine (+12) and SMU (+12).
Freshman Sophie Han and junior Kiara Romero each fired an even-par 71 on Monday to pace the Ducks.
How it Happened: After shooting 11 over on the front nine in Sunday's opening round, Oregon's four counting scorers combined to shoot even par on the front side to start the day on Monday. The Ducks were in good position to shoot par or better before going 4 over across the final two holes of the round.
Romero is the top Duck on the leaderboard in a tie for 15th at 2 over, following her 73 on Sunday with a 71 in round two. She was 2 under with just one bogey through 16 holes before running into trouble at No. 17, where she made a double bogey.
Han matched Romero with an even-par 71, a four-stroke improvement from the first round. The freshman tied for the team lead with four birdies, including three on the back nine and two in her final three holes.
Freshman Shyla Singh matched Han with four birdies, incliuding two on a mistake-free front nine. She added two more birdies on the back side but also had three bogeys and a double bogey to finish with a 1-over 72.
Sophomore Tong An rounded out Oregon's counting scores with a 3-over 74, making 15 pars and three bogeys.
