Men's Tennis Picks Up Ranked Win Over Illinois

Ducks take down No. 31
EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon men's tennis defeated No. 31 ranked Illinois in a thrilling 4-3 match today in Eugene.
The Ducks secured their highest ranked win of the season on a beautiful sunny day in Eugene. It was the highest ranked win for Oregon since defeating No. 22 UCLA in last season's Pac-12 Tournament.
Oregon secured a crucial doubles point after Paris Pouatcha and Lachlan Robertson won court two 7-5 and Lenn Luemkemann and Matthew Burton won a nail-biting 7-6 set with a 10-8 tiebreaker.
With a 1-0 lead and momentum, the Ducks moved on to singles. Illinois tied the match up at one-all after No. 14 Kenta Miyoshi swept Luemkemann on court one. UO bounced back to regain the lead with a strong 6-2, 6-1 sweep from Burton on court four, but the Illini again evened the score with a court six win. The trend continued after Robertson's 6-4, 6-2 sweep on court five was followed by an Illinois win on court three.
Vlad Breazu was in a second set tiebreak when the match evened up at three-all. Breazu won the first set, so was looking for a sweep when set two went to a tiebreak. The Romanian took it to another level and dominated the tiebreak 7-3 to clinch the victory for Oregon.
The Ducks will look to build off the victory with the final home match of the season set for Sunday at 1 p.m. PT.
