Men's Tennis Completes Weekend Sweep, Defeats Northwestern
04/20/25 | Men's Tennis
EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon men's tennis won a much-needed dual match today, defeating Northwestern 4-1. The win secures the Ducks a spot in the Big Ten Tournament.
UO entered the weekend in 11th place in the conference and the top 10 teams make the Big Ten Tournament, so the stakes couldn't have been higher headed into the final regular season weekend. After taking care of business against No. 31 Illinois Friday, Oregon hoped for the same result Sunday.
Vlad Breazu and Clement Lemire gave Oregon their first win of the day, a 6-3 victory in doubles. Court one went to Northwestern by way of a 6-3 win, so court two would settle the point. Paris Pouatcha and Lachlan Robertson gave UO the lead with a 6-4 win.
Up one-zero, Oregon needed just three singles wins for the team victory. The Wildcats got right back in the match and evened the score with a court five win. Oregon's Luemkemann and Pouatcha each swept their courts to give the Ducks a 3-1 edge and a win was in sight.
For the second match in a row, Breazu clinched the deciding point on court two to secure the win.
No. 9 seed Oregon (13-12) and No. 8 seed Illinois (14-10) will open the Big Ten Tournament with a first round match at 8 a.m. PT on April 24
