Strong Back Nine Leads Ducks To Second Consecutive Win
03/25/25 | Men's Golf
EUGENE, Ore. – The Ducks entered the final round in a tie for the lead to start the final round at the Duck Invitational on Tuesday, but Oregon found itself down by five strokes at the turn. A stellar back nine, led by clutch shots in the final holes, helped the Ducks claw back and claim the team title at their home tournament.
It is the second win in a row for Oregon after taking the title at the Bandon Dunes Championship earlier this month. It marks the first time since the 2022-23 season that the Ducks have won back-to-back tournaments, when UO also won at Bandon Dunes and Eugene Country Club in consecutive events.
"We are very fortunate to have won," head coach Casey Martin said. "It felt like we were always playing from behind today, but our guys fought. It's really hard to win your own tournament, but proud of what we showed today to pull it out."
The Ducks shot a combined 8-under par on the back nine to make up for a tough front nine, finishing with a 1-over 285 on the day. The Ducks three-round total of 854 (-8) beat Colorado State and Wyoming by one stroke.
Three Ducks finished in the top 10. Freshman Ramil Saelim tied for third with a 7-under 206, Eric Doyle tied for sixth with a 5-under 208 and Jeffrey Kwak took 10th place with a 3-under 210. Colorado State's Christoph Bleier won the individual title at 10 under.
How It Happened
Saelim finished in the red for the second round in a row, shooting a 1-under 70 in the final round. Just his second tournament in the lineup for the Ducks, the freshman sat at 2 over through ten before lighting notching three birdies and five pars in his last eight holes, including birdies on both 16 and 17.
Doyle got out to a slow start, bogeying two of his first three holes, but found his swing on the ninth hole to earn his third top-10 finish of the season. The senior birdied six of his last 11 holes, including a crucial one on his final hole of the day to finish with a 4-under 67, his lowest round of the tournament.
Similarly, Leach was slow out of the gates, playing the front nine five-over but carded three birdies on the back for his second 2-over 73 in a row. The senior came through when it mattered most, birdieing No. 16 and No. 18. Aiden Krafft rounded out the Ducks counting scores with a 4-over 75 to finish tied for 18th.
Competing individually, Jeffrey Kwak earned his top-10 finish as a Duck thanks to a season-low 3-under 68. The sophomore carded three birdies and an eagle to pair with two bogeys, placing 10th with a 3-under 210.
