The Ducks opened league play with a pair of hard-fought defeats, first falling at No 74 Rutgers 4-3 before a 4-1 setback at Maryland. After nearly upsetting the Scarlet Knights in the opener, Oregon forced five of the six singles matches into a decisive third set against the Terrapins.
Senior Karin Young went unbeaten in singles in both contests to extend her winning streak to four matches, improving her dual record to 7-3. Sophomore Tilde Jagare, playing at No. 3 in the lineup, is off to an 8-0 start this spring to lead the team. Freshman Patsy Daughters is tied with Young for the second-most singles wins at seven.
So far this spring, Oregon boasts a 33-20 combined singles record to go with a 17-12 doubles mark. The Ducks have gone on to clinch the doubles points in seven of 11 matches this season, led by the tandems of Daughters and Young and Jagare and freshman Juliett Santitto, who have a team-leading four doubles wins.
UCLA enters Friday's match on a two-match skid, losing to both San Diego State and USC by a narrow 4-3 margin. The Bruins possess three ranked doubles teams, including the nation's third-ranked squad of Olivia Center and Katie Fakih.
Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer headlines the Bruins' singles lineup, coming in at No 16 in the latest ITA singles rankings. Lutkemeyer leads four players in the rankings, which also features No. 52 Fakih, No. 67 Elise Wagle and No. 100 Kimmi Hance.
