Ducks’ 15-Run First Sparks 22-4 Win Over ACU
03/10/25 | Softball
Paige Sinicki hit a grand slam and had a career-high seven RBI while Katie Flannery also homered and Kedre Luschar hit two triples in the first inning.
"I just think the one thing I think this team has always been really good about is responding, and we walked away yesterday really not liking some things that we did and wanting to do things a little different today," said coach Melyssa Lombardi, in reference to the Ducks' 3-1 win against the Wildcats on Sunday. "So anytime you have a team that responds, I always think that's a really good sign. And so, I was pleased that they did that."
The crowd of 1,439, that included 600 elementary students from four local grade schools – Centennial, Two Rivers Dos Rios, Walterville and Yolanda, saw the Ducks (24-2) come within one run of the school record for runs, 23 set against Oregon State in 2015. That was also the game in which UO set the program record with 20 RBI.
"It was fun," said Sinicki of the Youth Day crowd. "Every time I looked out there, I was smiling, looking at Kedre (Luschar) she was smiling and hearing the kids are chanting for her.
"It was cool to have the kids see us go out and play and hopefully they go out and do something like that in the future. They brought a lot of joy to me."
How It Happened: The Ducks homered twice to go along with Luschar's two triples in Oregon's 15-run first inning.
Abilene Christian scored two runs in the top of first inning on bloop single behind second base that just eluded Sinicki's glove and led 2-0 after a half of an inning.
Flannery hit the first home run in the bottom of the first, a three-run shot to center field. It was her fourth home run of the season.
Luschar hit the first of her two triples later in the inning to score Dezianna Patmon and then Luschar came home on Braiesey Rosa's double for a 5-2 lead.
Then it was Sinicki's turn. She came up with the bases loaded and launched a 2-2 pitch out of the yard to the bleachers in center field. It was her fifth home run of the season.
With two runners on, Luschar hit her second triple of the inning drive in two more runs. Luschar then scored on a wild pitch and at that point it was 12-2.
Two ACU errors contributed to the final three runs of the Ducks' record effort.
After Patmon singled in a run in the second inning to make it 16-4, the Ducks strung together five consecutive hits to tack on eight more runs in the third.
Kai Luschar's single loaded the bases before Sinicki cleared them with a double off the left field wall. Flanney's single scored Sinicki for a 20-4 lead and Patmon followed with another hit.
Kedre Luschar nearly hit her third triple of the day with a ball that hit off the wall in center, but she settled for a double that plated her sister and Patmon with the Ducks' final runs of the game.
"It was good," said Sinicki of Oregon's offensive outburst. "I think we needed that going into next weekend and to pass our bats to get the energy flowing. And that is Duck softball, being able to stick to our process and get back to what we have been doing all season."
Three Ducks had three hits on Monday – Flannery, Patmon and Kedre Luschar – while Sinicki and Kai Luschar both had two. Kedre Luschar drove in five runs while Flannery had four RBI.
In the circle, Elise Sokolsky went 3.2 innings in relief, giving up two hits and no runs while striking out five, to improve to 6-1 on the year.
Notable: The Ducks' 24-2 start matches the program's best 26-game record since going 24-2 to open the 2021 season … Kedre Luschar extended her hitting streak to a career-best 13 games. That's the longest by a Duck since Allee Bunker hit in 18 straight in 2022 … With seven RBI, Sinicki, who made her 155th consecutive game at shortstop, tied for the second-highest single-game total in program history, trailing only Gwen Svekis' nine-RBI game against OSU in 2015 … Rosa, who now has a six-game hitting streak, hit .455 (5-of-11) in the five-game Jane Sanders Classic with a double, two home runs and six RBI … With five stolen bases on Monday, Oregon retook the NCAA lead in steals with 97. That's already the fourth-best single-season total in program history.

Head Coach Melyssa Lombardi on how the nonconference schedule prepared the team for Big Ten competition
"I think we played great competition, played great pitching, great defense, great hitting. I mean, we've seen it all, and I think it's important that your nonconference prepares you for conference. And I'd like to say what we've seen up to this point is preparing us for what is next. I think it's important that we just really continue to stay true to ourselves. That's when we play our best ball."
Up Next: Oregon opens Big Ten play with a three-game series at Washington that begins Friday (4 p.m. B1G+).
