Simmons Repeats as Midfielder of the Week
02/18/25 | Women's Lacrosse
EUGENE, Ore. – For the second week in a row, Oregon lacrosse midfielder Anna Simmons has been named the Big Ten Conference Midfielder of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
After matching her career high with six goals in the season-opening win over Butler to start her junior campaign, Simmons raised the bar in Week 2. Simmons tied the program record for the most goals in a single game with seven scores in the win over Stetson, tying the Oregon record held by Hanna Hilcoff and Jana Drummond. Not only dangerous around the net, Simmons recorded five draw controls, a ground ball and a caused turnover against the Hatters.
Her 13 goals to start the season gave her the national lead in goals and were the most scored by a Duck in a two-game stretch in program history.
The North Bend, Wash., native continued her explosive start to the season on Saturday, netting a team-high four goals as the Ducks beat Columbia to improve to 3-0 for just the second time in program history. She also tallied four draw controls, two ground balls and a caused turnover. She has recorded a first-half hat trick in all three games this season, finding the back of the net 11 times during the opening 30 minutes of play.
Through three games, Simmons leads the nation with 17 goals scored and is tied for eighth in total points (17). Her 5.7 goals per game leads the Big Ten and ranks fourth nationally.
Simmons has tallied more goals this season than 38 Division I teams, including Central Michigan, who the Ducks face at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22, at Papé Field.
This marks the second-career weekly honor for Simmons, who was also named to the Big Ten Players to Watch list earlier this month. During the 2024 season, Simmons set career highs in goals (34), assists (8), points (42), caused turnovers (21) and draw controls (38) after starting all 15 games for the Ducks.
