Simmons Tabbed as Big Ten Midfielder of the Week
02/11/25 | Women's Lacrosse
EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon lacrosse midfielder Anna Simmons has been named the Big Ten Conference Midfielder of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
Simmons was dominant in the Ducks' 18-6 win over Butler at Papé Field on Friday. The Washington native scored six goals on just seven shots on goal, matching her career high and tying for the most in a single game by any Big Ten player across the opening weekend. She also tallied a draw control, ground ball and caused turnover against the Bulldogs.
This marks the first career weekly award for Simmons, who was one of the three Ducks to be named to the Big Ten Preseason Players to Watch list last week. During the 2024 season, Simmons set career highs in goals (34), assists (8), points (42), caused turnovers (21) and draw controls (38) after starting all 15 games for the Ducks.
Though Simmons was recognized based only on Friday's performance, the junior shined once again in Tuesday's win over Stetson. She followed up her six-goal performance by tying the program record with seven scores in the Ducks' 17-7 win. Simmons scored each of UO's first three goals before finding the back of the net four times in the second half while also recording five draw controls, a caused turnover and a ground ball.
Simmons joins Hannah Hilcoff and Jana Drummond as the only Ducks to tally seven goals in a single game.
Simmons and the Ducks return to the field on Saturday, Feb. 15, when they face Columbia at Papé Field at noon.
