Goldstein Turns Away PK as Ducks Tie Gophers
10/19/25 | Women's Soccer
EUGENE, Ore. – Through six seasons and 78 career matches, Caeley Goldstein has seen and done just about everything a goalkeeper can do on the soccer field.
With one notable exception – save a penalty kick.
For the first time in her career, Goldstein did that in the 29th minute of Sunday's match against Minnesota to help Oregon preserve a 0-0 tie on senior day.
Goldstein recorded three saves and came out of the goal to make several heads up plays in the box to earn her fourth shutout of the season and 24th of her career.
"I don't even know how many games Caeley and I have been together now, but Caeley had not saved a PK yet," said coach Tracy Joyner. "I was very happy that this was the day, senior day, her time to shine. Really happy for her in that way, and to keep us in the game was huge.
"Caeley is just a great person, a really great leader, super mature, and she sees the game through a coaching lens. It's easy to have that feedback and relationship with her, and I'm just proud of her and happy for her to get this last season."

How It Happened: Oregon (2-10-5, 0-6-4), which has seen three games decided by a penalty kick this season, seemed destined for a fourth when Jayde Holley was whistled for a foul in the box in the 29th minute.
Goldstein stood on the goal line with her arms stretched out as far as they could reach when Paige Kalal attempted the penalty kick for the Golden Gophers (6-7-3, 2-5-3). Kalal drilled a low line drive to the left side of the goal. Goldstein read the angle and dropped to ground, blocking the ball with her right arm to keep the game scoreless.
"Penalties are always a gamble. I mean it's a lot of a mental game, so I tried to play that as much as I could," said Goldstein. "So yeah, just tried to get in (Kalal's) head before she even kicked it. It just worked out for me."
Each team took 11 shots. The Ducks had a 7-4 advantage on shots in the first half, led by Miya Alamares' career-best four attempts. Minnesota held a slight 6-5 edge in the second half.

Notable: Though the Ducks have one more home game this season, the team celebrated its nine seniors – Goldstein, Taylor Bryan, Sydney Chura, Carys Hall, Sydney Hennessey, Jayde Holley, Bryana Pizarro, Jasmine Young and manager Tori Villarreal – in a pregame ceremony … Young, who sustained what initially appeared to be a serious injury last Sunday at Penn State, returned to the field and started against the Gophers … This was the first-ever match between Oregon and Minnesota … The Ducks have allowed two goals or less in 15-of-17 games this season.

Quotable:
Head Coach Tracy Joyner
"I think we generated a lot of chances. We looked good in possession. I thought we switched the point of attack really well today. We were able to release our outside backs forward quite a bit. Couldn't finish on goal, unfortunately. Defensively, I thought we were really solid. Really liked having Jasmine Young back on the field. Her and (Cailin) Bloom did a great job defending one of the better strikers in our conference."
Goalkeeper Caeley Goldstein on her 24th career shutout
"It means a lot. I mean I think it's great to have a shutout on my senior day. It means more than a regular shutout."
Up Next: The Ducks finish the season by hosting No. 17 Washington next Sunday at 1 p.m. (B1G+).
