Romero, Ducks Finish Second At Stanford Intercollegiate
10/19/25 | Women's Golf
STANFORD, Calif. – Star junior Kiara Romero put together a stellar final round on Sunday at the Stanford Intercollegiate as the Oregon women's golf team secured a second-place finish at Stanford Golf Course.
Romero drained six birdies and an eagle en route to a 6-under 65, matching the best individual round in the field this weekend. She flew 13 spots up the leaderboard to earn her sixth career runner-up finish in a tie for second overall at 9-under par, leading the No. 3 Ducks to their second runner-up finish of the season and third top-three showing in as many tournaments.
Oregon closed the final round with an even-par 284 to finish at 14-under par after shooting 7 under in each of the first two rounds. Top-ranked Stanford won the tournament on its home course at 34 under, and the Ducks finished four strokes ahead of USC for second place.
"This was a really good effort by our team this weekend," head coach Derek Radley said. "This was a really big and really talented field so to shoot 14-under par and place second is a really good achievement for our ladies. Kiara was really locked in and kind of carried us through the final round today but I thought all five of our Ducks played well and had some really good moments this weekend. I'm excited to see how we can continue to grow and get better as we finish up the fall season."
How it Happened: Sunday's round began with a shotgun start, with Romero opening on hole No. 2. She started her round with five straight pars before going 5 under across her next six holes, making three birdies and an eagle at No. 12. A double bogey at No. 13 got her back to 3 under, but she rebounded immediately with two birdies in her next three holes before closing her day with a birdie at No. 1 to match UCLA's Meghan Royal for the lowest round of the tournament with a 6-under 65.
It was the 30th career sub-70 performance and 58th par-or-better showing in 72 career rounds for Romero. In 24 tournaments as a Duck, she now owns four career wins, six runner-up showings, 18 top-10 finishes and 23 top-20 performances. Romero finished in a three-way tie for second at 9 under, just one stroke back of individual medalist Megba Ganne of Stanford.
Freshman Shyla Singh shot par-or-better for the second day in a row, making 16 pars with a birdie and just one bogey for an even-par 71. She went 1-under par across the final two rounds after opening the weekend with a 5-over 76 on Friday.
Sophomore Tong An and freshman Sophie Han rounded out Oregon's counting scores with 3-over 74s. Both Ducks tied for 20th overall at 1-under par to give Oregon three players in the top 20.
