Oregon Wins Second Straight

BOISE, Idaho – The Oregon women's tennis team handed future Big Ten foe Minnesota its first loss of the season, as the Ducks defeated the Golden Gophers 5-2 in a neutral-site contest Saturday at Boas Indoor Tennis Center.
The Ducks (6-3) nabbed the first four points of the day after promptly winning the doubles point and winning the day's first three singles matches. It marked the second straight win away from home and UO's fifth win in its last six matches.
Candela Aparisi and Karin Young collected their fifth win of the spring together with a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles. Sophie Luescher and Uxia Martinez Moral, playing at the top spot, were victorious by a score of 6-2 to earn the seventh doubles point in nine matches this spring.
A day after claiming her first collegiate dual win, freshman Tilde Jagare extended Oregon's lead to 2-0 with her 6-4, 6-2 win on court six. Fellow freshman Aparisi followed shortly after with a 7-6 (6), 6-4 victory at the fifth spot.
For the second straight day, both Jo-Yee Chan and Luescher were able to erase first-set setbacks to come back for three-set victories at the top two spots in the lineup. Chan grabbed the deciding fourth point after ousting Aiva Schmitz 5-7, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 in the lineup.
With the match already decided, Luescher overcame a 1-6 first-loss loss to win the next two sets 7-5, 6-3. Four of the six singles matches went the full three sets.
UO picked up its second win against the Golden Gophers and is now 2-4 all-time in the series.
The Ducks head to Iowa City to take on Iowa (Friday) and Iowa State (Sunday) at Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex.
