Ducks Trek to LA to Take on No. 2 Bruins

EUGENE, Ore. — The Oregon women's basketball team continues its road swing Friday night, taking on No. 2 UCLA at Pauley Pavilion at 7 p.m. on Pac-12 Oregon.

Oregon continues a five-game road swing, including three straight Pac-12 games, Friday at No. 2 UCLA at 7 p.m. PT at Pauley Pavilion.

The game is the fourth of five straight contests away from home, as UO seeks to even its conference record at 1-1 after suffering a 62-41 loss at Oregon State on New Year's Eve.

Oregon is 36-41 all-time against UCLA, as the Bruins swept the season series a year ago. The Ducks and Bruins have split the last 10 meetings overall, with UO going 13-24 on the road in the series.

LAST TIME OUT
Oregon opened its Pac-12 schedule with a 62-41 defeat at Oregon State on Sunday. Despite holding an eight-point halftime lead, 23-15, the Beavers out-scored UO 47-18 in the second half to take the first Rivalry Series matchup of the season.

Grace VanSlooten led Oregon with 15 points, as she was the only Duck to crack double figures in the game. Chance Gray added nine points and Phillipina Kyei hauled in 16 rebounds.

The Ducks limited OSU to 15 points on 22 percent shooting in the first half before the Beavers' offense came alive in the second half, scoring 47 points on 60 percent shooting. Raegen Beers logged a 24-point, 17-rebound double-double to lead OSU.

SCOUTING UCLA
UCLA (12-0, 1-0) is one of seven undefeated teams remaining in the country after opening Pac-12 play with a 71-64 win over rival and sixth-ranked USC 71-64 last Saturday. In the win, four Bruins scored in double figures, paced by 21 from Londynn Jones.

Five Bruins average double-digit points on the season, led by 16.8 a night from Lauren Betts. Betts also leads UCLA at 9.1 rebounds per game and shooting 74.1 percent from the floor (No. 1 nationally). The Bruins rank second in the Pac-12 in both scoring at 88.9 points per game and field goal shooting at 49.9 percent.

Four of UCLA's 12 wins have come against ranked teams, including three of its last four. As a team, UCLA leads the country in rebounding margin, averaging more than 20 rebounds per game than its opponents (20.1). The Bruins rank second in the conference and sixth in the country at 47.6 rebounds a game.

INSIDE THE SERIES
UCLA owns a slim 41-36 lead in the all-time series, which dates back to 1980. UO is 13-24 on the road in the series, with UCLA winning the last two meetings in Los Angeles, including the 18th-ranked Bruins earning a 67-57 win a season ago. UCLA swept the season series last year and last won three straight in the series over the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons. The sides have split the last 10 meetings overall, going back to 2019.

Head coach Kelly Graves is 11-8 against the Bruins in his 10 seasons at Oregon. UO last swept the season series with UCLA during the 2021-22 season. The Ducks have won three of the last five games at Pauley Pavilion.

OREGON vs. RANKED TEAMS
UCLA marks the second top-25 team Oregon will face this season, as the Ducks suffered a 71-51 loss at then-No. 13 Baylor on Dec. 3. In 2022-23 Oregon went 2-8 against the nation's top 25, picking up wins over No. 17 Arkansas (85-78) and No. 14 Arizona (73-59). The 14-point scoring margin over the Wildcats was the largest by an unranked UO team against a ranked team since beating No. 4 Maryland 77-63 on March 25, 2017. It tied the second-largest ranked win by an unranked Duck team in the Kelly Graves era, trailing only an 88-55 win over 24th-ranked Michigan State on Nov. 22, 2016.

In Graves' tenure, the Ducks have piled up 45 ranked wins over his previous nine seasons. The Ducks are 18-90 all-time on the road against ranked teams and 76-188 in their history against top-25 teams. A win at No. 2 UCLA would be Oregon's first true road win against a top-15 team since defeating 15th-ranked Oregon State, 79-59, on Dec. 13, 2020, and would also mark UO's highest ranked win since at least 1979-80.
