Silverado Success
Oregon has performed well at the Silverado Showdown, earning six top-five finishes in eight appearances. The Ducks were the runners-up in 2022, with Ching-Tzu Chen leading in the way in a tie for 10th overall at 1-over par. UO won the second annual Silverado Showdown in the spring of 2015, and were also the runners-up the following year in 2016.
Whole Squad Ready
Oregon's entire eight-player roster will be in action in the final tournament of the regular season, with Minori Nagano, Brittany Shin and Baylee Hammericksen each competing as an individual. It will be the season debut for Hammericksen, who made her collegiate debut at the Silverado Showdown last spring as a true freshman. Hammericksen posted a 2-over 74 in her first round as a Duck before finishing the tournament at 15 over.
Varma Leads Ducks In Phoenix
True freshman Anika Varma enjoyed the best outing of her young career last weekend at the PING/ASU Invitational, tying for 11th overall at 1-over par for her first top-20 finish. Varma shot 1 over in the first and third rounds, and went under par for the first time in her career with a 1-under 71 in the second round. Junior Minori Nagano also put together her best event as a Duck, tying for 21st at 3-over par while competing as an indvidual. The Ducks finished sixth out of 17 teams while getting an early look at Papago Golf Club, which will host the Pac-12 Championships later this month.
Park Returns To Top Of Lineup
The Ducks' lineup will be bolstered by the return of junior Ashleigh Park, who missed the PING/ASU Invitational with a minor injury. Park put together a stellar first fall season with Oregon, leading the team with a 71.90 scoring average while placing in the top 20 of all four tournaments with three top-10 finishes, including a career-best runner-up showing at the Pac-12 Preview after shooting 8-under par (70-69-72). It's a quick turnaround to compete in the Silverado Showdown for junior Hsin-Yu (Cynthia) Lu and senior Briana Chacon, who both flew directly to Napa from Augusta, Ga., after playing in the prestigious Augusta National Women's Amateur. Both Ducks reached their goals of advancing to the final round after missing the cut last spring, earning the right to compete on the famous Augusta National Golf Course. Lu put together a tremendous week, shooting 2-under par (71-70-73) to earn a top-five finish in the elite field in a tie for fifth overall. Chacon also played well, finishing in a tie for 26th at 7-over par (71-74-78).
Ducks Storm Back To Defend Title At Therese Hession Regional Challenge
Oregon claimed its first win of 2022-23 in thrilling fashion on Feb. 14, firing a stellar 4-under 280 to storm back and win the 2023 Therese Hession Regional Challenge by five strokes. The Ducks entered the final day in a tie for fourth at 1-over par, eight strokes behind No. 1 Stanford. UO made a whopping 20 birdies as a team in round three to overtake the Cardinal, which stumbled to a 9-over 293 on the final day. The Ducks repeated as the team champions at what was formerly known as the Northrop Grumman Challenge, after winning by seven strokes in 2022. Senior Ching-Tzu Chen led the Ducks throughout the week, finishing in a tie for second individually at 3-under par after closing with a 2-under 69. Chen matched her best career finish and came in behind only Rose Zhang (Stanford), the No. 1 ranked player in the world and reigning NCAA champion. Oregon's win was the program's seventh since the spring of 2021, including a program-record five tournament victories in 2021-22.
