Ducks Beat New Mexico, 4-1, for 10th Win

EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon men's tennis team snapped a three-match skid Friday evening with a 4-1 home win over New Mexico at the UO Student Tennis Center. With the victory, the Ducks improve to 10-5 this season. Freshman Jesper Klöv-Nilsson clinched the match with a straight-set win on court six.
How It Happened: The pair of Ty Gentry and Joshua Charlton ended a nearly hour-long doubles point with a 7-6(4) win at the No. 1 spot in the lineup. All three matches were extended tiebreakers against New Mexico (5-6). With the win, Gentry and Charlton improve to 16-4 this season with a 9-2 record in dual play.
Brandon Lam and Charles Roberts put Oregon ahead with a 7-6(3) triumph at No. 2 doubles. The duo improved to 6-2 as a team, all results coming during the dual season. The Ducks have won the doubles point in eight of 10 home matches this year.
Freshman Luke Vandecasteele pushed the lead to 2-0 with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Facundo Bermejo at No. 5 singles. The visitors from Albuquerque picked up their lone point of the night with a three-set win from Sergio Molina at No. 3 singles.
Junior Riki Oshima collected his team-leading 10th dual win of the year, recovering from a tough opening set to post a 0-6, 6-2, 6-3 win in the No. 4 spot. His win gave Oregon a 3-1 lead with Klöv-Nilsson within reach of the win on court six. The UO freshman went on to a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Rafael Abdulsalam for the team win.
