Ducks Post Top-50 Win Over Old Dominion

EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon men's tennis team defeated Old Dominion, 5-2, for a top-50 win at the UO Student Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Ducks improve to 11-5 this year and 8-3 on their home courts.
How It Happened: Old Dominion (11-3) took the first doubles match at the No. 3 spot before the Ducks prevailed on courts one and two to earn the doubles point. Oregon continues its strong doubles play in Eugene, and has now won nine of 11 doubles points in home matches.
Brandon Lam and Charles Roberts brought the Ducks level with a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles, improving to 7-2 together this season. With each team on the board in doubles play, the opening point was decided in the top-35 matchup at the spot of the lineup.
The No. 10-ranked pair of Ty Gentry and Joshua Charlton clinched the early match lead with a 7-5 win over ODU's Luca Maldoner and Nicola Vidal, the No. 35 duo in the country. With the win, Gentry and Charlton improve to 17-4 this season with a 10-2 record in dual play.
Old Dominion tied the match at 1-all when Tomislav Podvinski defeated Gentry in straight sets on court three. Oregon regained the lead courtesy of Klöv-Nilsson and his 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles. That was quickly followed by a win from No. 94 Emmanuel Coste on court two. He pushed the advantage to 3-1 with his straight-set win over Maldoner, the reigning C-USA Player of the Week.
Oshima earned his second win of the day at No. 4 singles, clinching the match for the Ducks with a 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 win. The victory was his 13th of the season. With the win in hand, freshman Luke Vandecasteele earned another point for the Ducks with a three-set win of his own at No. 5 singles.
The Monarchs picked up their second point in a tightly contested match on court one. Francois Musitelli posted a 5-7, 7-6(9), 1-0(8) win over Charlton in the final match on court.
