02/02/19 | Men's Tennis
EUGENE, Ore. – The University of Oregon men's tennis team continued its weekend home stand with a 4-0 win over Nevada Saturday afternoon at the Student Tennis Center. In clinching the match for the Ducks, freshman Joshua Charlton remains undefeated in singles play during the dual season. Oregon is 5-1 through its first six matches of the year.
Up Next: The Ducks return to their home courts Sunday for a third match in as many days, hosting New Mexico at 10 a.m. Oregon is in the midst of a six-match home stand that also features matches against Boise State (Feb. 8), Louisville (Feb. 9) and Loyola Marymount (Feb. 17).
Oregon took the early match lead with the doubles point, clinching the advantage with a win on court one from Charles Roberts and Armando Soemarno. The No. 38 duo posted a 6-4 victory over the 48th-ranked team of Julien Evrard and Kostya Nesterenko. The Ducks were already on the board thanks to a 6-2 win on court two by Joshua Charlton and Ty Gentry.
In singles play, Riki Oshima was the first Duck off the court with a tidy 6-2, 6-1 victory over Jonathan Aremon on court four. The win is his 10th of the season. Senior Thomas Laurent dropped the first three games of his match with Julien Evrard but responded for a 6-4, 6-3 win at the top spot.
Despite the 3-0 match lead, the Ducks were in tight battles on the remaining four courts including a pair of three setters. Charlton was one of those in a third set, tied at 2-all in the decisive frame. However, the freshman broke for a 3-2 lead and on match point, Charlton came up with a service winner to clinch the win for Oregon.
