Gentry Rallies, Advances to Home Final

EUGENE, Ore. – Senior Ty Gentry rallied for a three-set win Saturday afternoon in the semifinals of the Duck Invitational at the Student Tennis Center. With the victory, he advances to the 'A' Flight final and will face Pacific's Philip Hjorth for the title Sunday at 11 a.m. (PT).

Having dropped the opening set, Gentry corrected his path and posted a 5-7, 6-3, 6-1 victory over Boise State's Kyryll Kryvchun. Sunday's final will be a rematch of last year's Duck Invitational semifinal; Gentry won that match in three (7-5, 6-7(9), 6-2) and went on to win the tournament title.
The Ducks got a win from first-time duo Emmanuel Coste and Brandon Lam in the quarterfinal round of the doubles bracket. The Oregon pair posted an 8-4 victory over Ryan Brown and Emin Torlic of Loyola Marymount. In consolation play, UO freshmen Jesper Klöv-Nilsson and Luke Vandecasteele had a 6-3 win over Portland's Eleftherios Neos and Sema Pankin.
Vandecasteele also picked up a three-set win (6-2, 1-6, 6-1) over Pankin in a singles consolation matchup Saturday afternoon. In singles, Lam trailed 8-4 in the third-set breaker before rallying for a 12-10 win. He saved two match points along the way. The Ducks picked up another win from freshman Gio Soermarno, a 6-4, 6-4 victor in the final match of the day.
