TUCSON, Ariz. - The Oregon women's golf team endured a tough first day at the Pac-12 Championships on Monday, battling through windy conditions to post a 29-over 317 as a team at Sewailo Golf Club.
The Ducks currently sit in a tie for 10th in the 11-team field. Third-ranked UCLA leads after the first day at 2-over.
How it Happened: Oregon started slow and was forced to play from behind much of the day, with three of its five players posting double bogies or worse on the first hole. The Ducks rebounded a bit on the back nine after a 20-over front nine, shooting 9-over on the final nine holes to help salvage the day.
Senior Cathleen Santoso finished the day as the top Duck after firing a 5-over 77, and sits in a tie for 23rd on the individual leaderboard. Santoso was 5 over on her first nine holes before playing even-par golf on the final nine. UCLA's Lilia Vu and Bethany Wu are tied for the individual lead at 1-under.
Kathleen Scavo, Marcella Pranovia and Petra Salko all ended the first day in Tucson at 8 over and tied for 38th overall. Pranovia was 2 over on her final nine holes, and Scavo led the Ducks on the day with four birdies.
Junior Kelsey Ulep rounded out the Oregon lineup with an 11-over 83.
Notable: Scavo's four birdies were tied for third-most in the field … Santoso made 12 pars, tied for fourth-most in the field … Oregon made seven birdies as a team in the first round.
Up Next: Oregon will be paired with Oregon State and Washington State for Tuesday's second round, and will begin teeing off at 8:40 a.m. off of hole No. 10.
