Four Ducks Advance In Wild Day Of Tournament Action
11/02/17 | Women's Tennis
It was a rollercoaster day for the Oregon women's tennis team Thursday as they managed to record wins in each singles match, but could not pick up a doubles win playing in two separate tournaments across southern California.
How It Happened: It was a perfect day in singles play at the Jack Kramer Invitational with all four Ducks advancing to the round of 32.
Senior Nia Rose and junior Daniela Nasser opened the singles bracket, picking up straight-set wins by scores of 6-3, 6-3 and 6-3, 6-4, respectively.
Freshman Paiton Wagner followed suit nearly sweeping her UC Riverside counterpart, 6-0, 6-1.
Sophomore Julia Eshet battled back after dropping the opening set to Anna Romeka of Loyola-Marymount to win her match in three sets, 1-6, 6-2, 10-4.
The Ducks were not as fortunate in doubles play, dropping all three of their matches Thursday.
At the ITA Fall Nationals, Alyssa Tobita and Shweta Sangwan took on the third-ranked pair of Paige Hourigan and Kenya Jones from Georgia Tech. The Duck duo managed to push the Yellow Jacket pair to the edge in the opening set, but could not pull off the upset, falling 7-5, 6-2.
It was a similar result at the Jack Kramer Invite as the pairs of Eshet and Nasser along with Rose and Wagner fell in their opening round matches by scores of 8-5 and 8-7, respectively.
