
Ducks Ground The Pilots 5-2 In Season-Opener

The Oregon women's tennis team opened the 2018 spring seaosn on a high note, defeating Portland 5-2 Friday afternoon.
EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon women's tennis team opened the 2018 spring season with a 5-2 victory over Portland Friday afternoon at the Student Tennis Center.
How it Happened: The Ducks opened the year, quickly securing the doubles point against the Pilots.
In their first-ever pairing sophomore Rifanty Kahfiani and freshman Paiton Wagner opened the scoring with a 6-1 victory over the UP's Emily Soares and Laura Okazaki at the No. 3 spot. The 17th-ranked pair of Alyssa Tobita and Shweta Sangwan clinched the point for UO with a 6-2 win from the No. 1 position.
In singles play, Tobita won her first career match at the No. 1 spot racing out to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Jelena Lukic. Kahfiani followed suit shortly afterwards with a 6-1, 6-2 win against UP's Nina Nikitovic.
Playing in her first dual match as a Duck, Wagner came up big for UO clinching the win from the No. 6 spot by downing Emily Soares, 6-3, 6-1.
At the No. 2 position, Sangwan grinded out a three-set victory over Radina Dimitrova. After dropping the opening set, Sangwan rallied to win 2-6, 6-2, 10-5.
Daniela Nasser was also pushed to a third set, but could not pull off the win falling to Raphaella LeBlanc, 3-6, 6-3, 10-7.
Notable: With their doubles win today, Tobita and Sangwan take full ownership of the No. 4 spot on the UO all-time doubles wins list with a career doubles record of 33-10.
