
Wise Has Ducks in Sixth at The Goodwin

STANFORD, Calif. – The Oregon men's golf team finished the first day of competition at The Goodwin tied for sixth on Thursday at the par-70, 6,727-yard Stanford Golf Course.
How It Happened: The Ducks carded a 6-over 286 in Thursday's first round, finishing tied with Northwestern and a stroke back from fifth-place St. Mary's and nine strokes back from leader UC Davis. Stanford and UNLV sit tied for second at even par, with the Stanford “B-Team” in third at 1-over. Luke Vivolo of UC Davis is the clubhouse individual leader after firing a 5-under 65 to hold a one-stroke lead over Oregon sophomore Aaron Wise.
Wise started strong, dropping in birdies on five of his first 16 holes before bogeying his only hole of the round on the par-3 17th to card a first-round 66 and hold the second spot on the leaderboard heading into moving day.
After a rough start on the front nine, heading into the turn at 6-over, Nigel Lett rebounded nicely with a five birdies to only one bogey on the back end to finish with a first-round 72. Lett is currently tied for 42nd.
Brandon McIver dropped in three birdies over his first nine holes , but a double and two consecutive bogeys on the 12th, 13th and 14th led to a 73 card for the Duck senior on Thursday, putting him in a tie for 52nd.
After recording the first win of his career earlier this week at the Northwest Classic, junior Sulman Raza had a tough round Thursday with a 6-over 76 to tie for 93rd. Zach Foushee added a 5-over 75 for his first round to tie for 82nd.
Up Next: Paired with Stanford and USC, the Ducks will tee off for the second round of The Goodwin Friday at 7:30 a.m.
