STANFORD, Calif. – The Oregon men's golf team sits tied for fifth while sophomore Aaron Wise sits a stroke out of the lead after the second day of competition at The Goodwin, played at the par-70, 6,727-yard Stanford Golf Course.
How It Happened: The Ducks turned in a 2-under 278 in their second round on Friday to tie the Stanford “B-Team” in fifth at 4-over for the weekend. UC Davis leads at 11-under, followed by Stanford (-1), Colorado (even) and UNLV (+2).
Aaron Wise sits a stroke back from the lead heading into his final round. The sophomore birdied his last three holes to fire a 3-under 67 on Friday to go with his first-round 66.
Junior Sulman Raza got off to a hot start, draining birdies on three of his first six holes. While the Eugene native eventually cooled off, the start allowed him to bounce back from a tough 76 in Thursday's first round with a 2-under 68 that got him to 4-over for the weekend. Raza enters the final day of competition in a tie for 37th.
Brandon McIver improved his standing as well on Friday, posting an even-par 70 to best his first-round 73. McIver positioned himself in a tie for 31st after Friday's action.
Aside from an eagle on the par-5 7th and a birdie on the par-5 16th, Nigel Lett struggled to find a rhythm in his second round, bogeying six holes to finish with a 73 to pair with his first-round 72. Lett ended his Friday tied for 52nd overall at 5-over.
Senior Zach Foushee carded a second-round 73 on Friday to bump his overall score to 8-over and tie himself for 81st.
Wise Watch: Aaron Wise enters Saturday in contention for not only individual medalist honors, but a couple of school records as well. The Lake Elsinore, Calif., native will look to be the first Duck to achieve three tournament wins in a single season, while also gunning for an Oregon-record-tying fifth career win.
