ROLLING HILLS, Calif. – The doubles duo of Kennan Johnson and Shweta Sangwan advanced to the doubles main draw semifinals on Saturday as the Oregon women's tennis team finished its third day at the Jack Kramer Invitational.
How It Happened: Sangwan and Johnson tallied their third win of the weekend, knocking off Arizona's Samantha Czarniak Rego and Inge Hendrix, 8-3. The pair has been solid together this fall, going 4-0 in its matches together so far. Sangwan and Johnson will face UC Santa Barbara's Palina Dubavets and Stefani Stojic in the semifinals on Sunday morning at 9 a.m.
Sangwan advanced in the singles bracket as well Saturday, defeating San Diego's Marta Stojanovic, 6-4, 5-7, 6-3, to move on to the semifinals where she came up short to Stacey Fung of Washington, 6-3, 6-4.
Alyssa Tobita and Micheline Aubuchon picked up the Ducks' second win of the day in doubles, defeating the UC Santa Barbara team of Lou Adler and Amanda Atanasson, 8-1, in consolation play.
Daniela Nasser and Marlou Kluiving both earned wins in consolation singles. Nasser beat her opponent from Cal State Fullerton, 6-4, 7-6(2), before Kluiving won her match, 6-2, 6-4.
What It Means: Undefeated since teaming up at the Washington Invitational last month, Johnson and Sangwan hope to move to 6-0 as a tandem on Sunday with two matches sitting between them and the Jack Kramer Invitational doubles title. The Ducks had a nice day in the consolation draws as well, picking up a doubles win and two singles wins. A strong finish on Sunday would provide the Ducks a boost of momentum as they end the fall season and transition into preparing for the spring schedule.
