Ducks Open Competition at Jack Kramer Invitational

ROLLING HILLS, Calif. – The Oregon women's tennis team picked up two wins in doubles and four wins in singles on the first day of competition at the Jack Kramer Invitational at the Jack Kramer Club Thursday.
How It Happened: The day opened with two rounds of doubles, although each of the three Oregon doubles teams received first-round byes. Two of the three duos picked up wins to earn spots in Friday's round of 16.
Micheline Aubuchon and Alyssa Tobita picked up the first win of the weekend for the Ducks, knocking off San Diego's Sophia Chow and Marta Stojanavic, 8-2. The tandem of Kennan Johnson and Shweta Sangwan handled Graine O'Neill and Olivia Sneed of Ohio State, 8-1.
Marlou Kluiving and Daniela Nasser fell, 8-3, to Pepperdine's Matea Cutura and Jean Runglerdkriangkrai.
In singles, three Ducks snagged wins to advance to the round of 32.
Freshman Shweta Sangwan tallied two big wins, defeating Long Beach State's Georgie Sanders, 6-0, 6-1, before knocking off 36th-ranked and top-seeded Madison Westby of USC in a three-set thriller, 6-2, 3-6, 10-6, for the biggest win of her collegiate career thus far.
After a first-round bye, Johnson advanced as well with a 6-4, 2-6, 10-4 win over Arizona's Kinga Gartner to move to 5-2 on the season. Nasser was also victorious, knocking off UC Irvine's Arisha Ladhani, 6-1, 6-1 for her fourth collegiate win.
After sweeping Baylor's Gabriela Ferreira the first set, Aubuchon dropped a tight third-set tiebreaker to fall, 0-6, 6-4, 10-8. Tobita lost a tough three-set match as well, coming up short, 6-7, 6-4, 10-6, to UC Santa Barbara's Jaimee Gilbertson. Kluiving fell, 6-2, 6-3, to Fresno State's Mayar Ahmed. Aubuchon, Tobita and Kluiving will each compete in the singles consolation bracket Friday.
What It Means: Oregon had a number of strong performances from its newcomers on Thursday, highlighted by Shweta Sangwan's first collegiate win over a ranked opponent. With three days of competition remaining at the Jack Kramer Club, the Ducks will look to keep advancing in order to finish the fall season on a high note.
