
Ducks Fall in OT at Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. – Down by nine with 4:55 left in regulation, the Oregon women's basketball team forced overtime at Arizona but couldn't finish off the comeback, falling 81-78 on Sunday at McKale Center.
The Ducks slide to 8-11 (1-7 Pac-12) with the overtime road loss while the Wildcats improve to 8-11 (1-7) after the win.
Stat Sheet: Lexi Bando finished with a team-high 20 points, including four three-pointers, while Katelyn Loper tallied 16 off the bench. Amanda Delgado also scored in double figures off the bench with 13 points while Jillian Alleyne had her 58th career double-double (12 points, 12 rebounds) before fouling out with under a minute to play in regulation. Alleyne also had four blocks.
How It Happened: Arizona took an early 10-7 lead but the Ducks responded with an 8-0 run, fueled by five points from Bando, to go up 15-10 with 10:05 remaining before halftime. The Ducks didn't score again for almost five minutes until Loper hit a runner in the lane to give UO a 17-15 lead with 5:32 on the clock. Oregon built its lead to eight, at 30-22, with 2:14 left in the first, but Arizona ended the half on a 7-2 run to make it a three-point game, 32-29, at halftime. Bando led the Ducks with 13 first-half points while Loper had eight. Alleyne picked up two quick fouls and had just two points and five rebounds at halftime.
Arizona took its first lead of the second half, 37-35, but Delgado came down and buried a three on the other end to put the Ducks back on top. Petersen followed with a layup to give Oregon a 40-37 lead with 15:21 left to play. The Wildcats battled back and took their biggest lead of the game, 63-54, with 4:55 left to play. Oregon made it a five-point game, 65-60, on a Bando layup, and after an Arizona basket, Loper drained a three-pointer to make it a four-point game, 67-63, with 2:26 left.
After an Alleyne make, Arizona answered on the other end to stay up four but Loper buried another three and the Ducks trailed just one, 69-68, with 47.4 seconds on the clock. The Wildcats missed two free throws but the Ducks didn't score on the ensuing possession. After stepping out of bounds, Arizona turned the ball over and Toler was fouled on a putback. She hit one free throw to tie up the game, 69-69, and send it to overtime.
It remained a tie, 78-78, with 30 seconds left in overtime when Charise Holloway hit a corner three to give the Wildcats an 81-78 lead with 8.5 to play. A game-tying three by the Ducks came up short and UA pulled out the win.
On the Glass: Arizona had 27 second-chance points on 21 offensive rebounds.
Notable: Toler started for the second straight time after making her first start of the year on Friday at Arizona State … Alleyne fouled out with 44 seconds left in regulation … Carpenter fouled out with 3:44 left in overtime.
Up Next: The Ducks return home to host the LA schools on Saturday (UCLA) and Monday (USC).
