01/31/15 | Women's Basketball
EUGENE, Ore. – Behind a herculean effort by Jillian Alleyne, the Oregon women's basketball team erased a 14-point lead in the second half to defeat UCLA, 67-65, on Saturday afternoon at Matthew Knight Arena.
Alleyne capped the comeback win by scoring the game-winning bucket with 1.8 seconds left.
The Ducks improved to 9-11 (2-7 Pac-12) with the win, while the Bruins move to 8-12 (4-5).
Stat Sheet: Alleyne finished the game with an astonishing 30 points and 25 rebounds, two shy of tying the single-game rebound record she set her freshman year. It was her fourth career 30-20 game (versus Portland State as a freshman and twice against Washington last year) and 59th career double-double. Katelyn Loper added 17 points off the bench while Lexi Bando added nine. Oregon held UCLA to just 23 points in the second half on 30.3 percent shooting.
How It Happened: The Ducks were down early, 14-7, after some hot shooting by UCLA's Nirra Fields and Corinne Costa. Oregon battled back and made it a two-point game, 16-14, with 13:21 left in the first. It remained tight until a steal and score by Jordin Canada gave the Bruins an eight-point lead, 37-29, with 4:26 left before halftime. The Bruins led, 42-33, at halftime behind 12 points from Kacy Swain. Alleyne nearly had a double-double in the first half alone with 15 points and nine rebounds.
The Bruins pushed it to a 14-point lead, 49-35, with 15:32 to play on a three-pointer by Kari Korver. A steal and a layup by Petersen cut it to a 51-42 UCLA lead with 12:09 remaining. It became a 58-50 lead for the Bruins on a corner three by Loper with 7:50 left.
A 15-2 run by the Ducks, capped by a three-ball from Bando plus an and-1 layup and free throw from Alleyne, cut it down even further, 62-60, with 3:55 left to play. Another and-1 by Alleyne tied it up, 65-65, with 2:00 on the clock.
Neither team was able to get a bucket until Alleyne's jumper from the paint with 1.8 seconds remaining.
Alleyne Takes Over: After Lexi Bando hit a three-pointer with 4:16 remaining to make it a 62-57 lead for the Bruins. After that bucket, Alleyne scored the last 10 points for the Ducks.
Record Book: Alleyne's 25 rebounds against the Bruins are tied for the third-most in UO single-game history. She also jumped Debbie Sporcich (1,404), Debbie Adams (1,412) and Taylor Lilley (1,415) on the UO all-time list with 1,430 career points.
Notable: The Ducks held UCLA to 25 percent shooting in their win at Pauley Pavilion earlier this season ... UCLA shot 41 percent on Sunday in Eugene ... Alleyne had her sixth career 20-20 game with 30 points and 25 rebounds.
Up Next: The Ducks play host to USC at 5 p.m. on Monday at Matthew Knight Arena. The game will be televised live on Pac-12 Networks.
