EUGENE, Ore. - The Oregon lacrosse team scored three straight goals to cut the Cardinal lead to just one with 12 minutes left in the second half but couldn't finish the rally and No. 19 ranked Louisville defeated the Ducks 13-10 on Saturday afternoon at Pape' Field.
Sophomore Jana Drummond had four goals to lead the Ducks while junior Alex Breiner chipped in two goals and had three assists for a team-high five points. Freshman Salliebeth Finnegan started in the net for the fourth straight game and made six saves while allowing 13 goals.
Louisville was led by Emily Dashiell's four scores and a strong effort in goal from Danielle Pawliw, who made 13 saves.
Oregon started out well, holding a 4-3 lead with 14 minutes left in the first half before the Cardinals went on three goal run to close out the period and led 6-4 at halftime.
Louisville came out in the second with the same intensity it closed out the first half with, scoring twice quickly to take a four goal lead. The Ducks battled back with three scores of their own with Breiner, Jana Drummond and Jess Drummond netting goals. But the Cardinals took advantage of an Oregon yellow card to rattle off three scores in less than two minutes while up a player and took an 11-7 lead with 10:11 left in the second half that would prove to be insurmountable.
The Cardinals led the Ducks 21-20 in ground balls, 10-8 in clears, 13-6 in saves and 14-17 in turnovers. Oregon led Louisville 39-23 in shots and 26-41 in fouls. The most telling statistic was Oregon's inability to convert free position shots, making just 3-of-14.
The Ducks will be back in action at 1 p.m. on March 13 as they play Iona in their second match of a three game homestand.
