
Ducks Fall 22-5 at #4 North Carolina

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Oregon lacrosse team suffered its first defeat of the season, 22-5 at No. 4 ranked North Carolina. Oregon falls to 2-1 on the season and 0-5 all-time versus the Tar Heels, including 0-4 in Chapel Hill. North Carolina has been ranked in the top-10 in each of its meetings with Oregon.
Oregon got single goals from Magie Kovacs, Alex Breiner, Erin Chisnell, Dominique Christiansen and Celeste Mayer. Breiner leads the Ducks with 10 scores this season. Freshman Kovacs has scored at least one goal in each of her first three collegiate games.
The Ducks won their first two games 22-6 over Jacksonville and 22-8 against St. Bonaventure.
In the first half, the Tar Heels jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first 13 minutes of the game. After Chisnell scored for Oregon to make it 5-1, Carolina ripped off eight more goals in the final 11:36 of the half to take a 13-1 lead into the lockerroom at halftime.
In the second half, the Tar Heels ran off five consecutive goals to expand their lead to 18-1 with under 18 minutes left. Oregon did fight back and score three straight goals in a span of three-and-a-half minutes, but Tar Heel reserves scored four goals down the stretch to ice the Carolina victory.
The Ducks will stay out on the East coast for another game against a top-20 squad with William & Mary on Sunday.
