Oregon Loses Home Match to Washington

EUGENE, Ore. – The University of Oregon soccer team lost 3-1 to Washington in a Pac-10 Conference match Friday evening at Pape' Field in Eugene. The Huskies improved to 11-3-3 overall and 3-1-2 in league play with the victory. The Ducks dropped to 8-8-1 on the year and 0-6-0 in conference action.
Junior forward Jen Stoltenberg tallied her eighth goal of the season for UO, scoring it in the 57th minute. The build-up began in the center part of Oregon's attacking third, when freshman midfielder Scout Libke passed it forward to junior midfielder Bree Rowe. After a short touch from Rowe, Stoltenberg swept across the top of the 18-yard box and fired a shot past UW goalkeeper Kari Davidson.
The Huskies scored three goals in a 10-minute span with the first coming in the 75th minute, an unassisted goal by Alex Webber. McKenna Waitley hooked up with Alex Kirk for UW's second goal which came just three minutes later. Washington's final goal came in the 85th minute with Veronica Perez assisting on a score from Waitley.
UW held a slim shot advantage in the match at 12-11, with the Huskies having eight shots on goal to Oregon's six. Both teams were whistled for six fouls, while each recorded three corner kicks in the contest.
The Ducks were led statistically by senior midfielder Teresa Bowns who had a team-best four shots, two of which were on goal. All three of Stoltenberg's shots were on goal, while Libke added three shots with one on target. Junior midfielder Kirstie Kuhns had one shot.
Eight Oregon players played the full 90 minutes. Senior goalkeeper Jessie Proulx had five saves and allowed three goals while playing the duration of the contest. Senior defenders Dani Oster and Danielle Sweeney, junior defender Mercedes Walters, Bowns, Kuhns, Libke and Stoltenberg also played all available minutes.
Perez, Webber and Waitley each had three shots for UW, in a match where six different Huskies recorded a shot on goal. Davidson had five saves and allowed the one goal in playing the entire match.
Oregon (8-8-1, 0-6-0 Pac-10) returns to the pitch Sunday at 1 p.m. with a home match against No. 21 Washington State.
